B4 · SWOT
First SWOT synthesis from the desk — to validate/refine after the field work. Crosses internal (project strengths/weaknesses) with external (market opportunities/threats).
| Internal | |
|---|---|
| Strengths | Founder = member of the target (beginner) → empathy & dogfooding. Strong conviction. A differentiated wedge identified (versioned/credited/auto-rescaled clone). Charter & site already in place. |
| Weaknesses | Solo, limited time. Not in the intermediate segment (for the community layer). Zero budget. Cold field recruiting (new to the communities). No testable product yet. |
| External | |
|---|---|
| Opportunities | Beginner inflow (market legalized 2021). No FR data on homebrewers → become the dataset. Joliebulle closed (2010-2025) → orphaned FR user base. Complex incumbents → room for "simple". |
| Threats | Build-A-Beer (AI clone + share) = direct competitor. Entrenched incumbents (Brewfather/BeerSmith) win on calculation. Community apps die (AHA Brew Guru, Feb 2026) → don't lead with community alone. |
Strategic read (TOWS): use the "founder-in-the-target" strength to attack the "beginner inflow" opportunity via the guided assistant (low-risk entry), while neutralizing the "communities die" threat by making community a retention layer, not the initial engine. Offset the "not in the intermediate segment" weakness with the field research.
